Alright looking for opinions here, I just put in the rear dana 44 about a month ago and it has been leaking out of the axle ends and slightly from the yoke ever since. I did replace the seals and bearings prior to install. I know I over filled it with fluid due to where the new drain plug is on the cover. I have since changed the gear oil and put in the correct amount and I am still leaking out of both sides. The leak has slowed since the fluid change but again it is still leaking. Could I have bad axle shafts (at the wheel cylinder), or have not seeded the seals correctly, fluid left over in the axle tubes from over filling it? Open to any and all input, thanks.

i would guess the seals.. I don't know my way around a 44.. Are the seals at the ends or by the carrier?

Is the leak between the tube and seal or axle and seal? Mine leaked between the tube and seal so I pulled the shafts, cleaned the tube with brake clean on a rag, and smeared some silicone on the outside of the seal and replaced. Has not leaked in 6K miles.

It only leaks when it's parked I believe or at least thats when I notice it. The leak when I see it is coming from the bottom of the drums leaking onto the inner portion of the tire. I guess I'm not real sure exactly where its leaking from. It's probably already too late for my rear brakes, have cleaned them out once already. I may just have to replace the seals again, I'm guessing it should be done leaking by now if it was just leftover from over filling the tubes.

Yeah the shoes are problably hosed. I got lucky on mine, it leaked between the tube and seal then drained down the backside of the backing plate. When you go to pull the shafts check the axle itself to make sure there is not a groove in it where the seal rides. If there is a groove, a product called speedy sleave can be used but the bearing and retainer will have to be pressed off and back on again.
