I was looking on Rocky Road Outfitters for lifts for my XJ and saw some budget 3" lifts for around $150 that just add spacers and lift shackles etc. I was wondering if anyone at Mojo has tried this kind of lift out or has a good link to a review on it. Are these even halfway useful or are they purely for making your DD look rugged?

they are fine depending on how you are planning on using your jeep, if you are going to do some mild wheeling and add slightly larger tires, then it will be fine, we have used pucks on the front of xj's and on all 4 corners of tj's for several years and there is nothing wrong with them. if you want to go with even larger tires say 33+ then you will have to do some trimming of the wheel wells and add some extended brake lines, then you are looking at adding some upgraded steering components as well as some kind of steering box brace, and a transfer case drop or a slip yoke eliminator, yada yada yada. so long story short, for a good looking and well performing xj, stay under 32" tires and a 2" lift. just my 2 cents worth.
