went camping the 1st weekend of may in southern indiana. We stayed at shades this time around, and went back to the property on friday night to get some firewood. Done it plenty of times without any problems .
Get about a 1/4 mile in the woods, and there is a creek to cross. it has been raining and was fairly deep so I decided to go through the mud beside the creek crossing, instead of directly through the hole where the road passes through the creek. Make it about 15 feet through the mud and dropped into a trough. Somebody else got stuck and made 2 ridges front and back. Once I got between those humps, I was done. Rocked it for about 15 minutes and decided it was going nowhere.
We were wholly unprepared. My uncle usually brings down his 4x4 ford pulling his XJ. Since we stayed as starve hollow he just brought his camper and 4 wheelers. What little 4 wheel drive gear I had was left at camp so we could squeeze 4 people and firewood in my heap.
We walked back to the road to find a local (we always drink a few beers with them when we go down) the guy with the 4wd drive tractor is getting ready to leave, but can pull it out tomorrow. Other guy offers us a ride back to camp. We take the ride, and regroup tomorrow. Here's how the jeep was left friday:
Saturday we get back, locate our buddy with the tractor. He said the tractor is at the farm, but he can pull me out with his truck. I look over at his extended cab f150 on street tires, and tell him that probably wont' work. He thinks different, but he lives here so he decided to try.
and as you expected 15 minutes later, he is stuck. He goes and gets a buddy with a factory power wagon package dodge and winches us both out.
