I have given up on the YJ. Since we are unable to find the problem and it is more than likely in the electrical system, I have taken Porks advice in swapping it the engine and going old school. I really don't want to go to an 8 cyl. since the wife will be driving this from Nashville to Bedford when the weather is bad. So, I am going to take Danno's offer on his 258. Since the current drive line will not work with it, the trans and transfer case sitting in the garage will be used. Danno's motor is not complete and needs finished. While this is taking place I am thinking of getting into the engine compartment and cleaning it up. It is covered with mud and crap from the previous owner. Since the old motor will be out, there will be plenty of room to get in there and really fix it up. I was thinking of using some kind of liner product such as rhino or a cheaper spray on liner. What about por 15? I am not really concerned with the looks so much as preventing more rust than it already has. What are your thoughts guys? What I need Danno - can you give me the specifics of the motor on this site. That way I have a reference point when looking for additional parts. Do I need to come to your place to pick up the motor or can you bring it with you to the next jeep night? Mongo - Danno says you have done some work to this motor and that you may have some of the pieces laying around. Can you let me know what pieces you do or do not have and what you have done to the piece. Pork - I need to know what price you are going to put on the transmission and transfer case. I have started to do some research on this process. I have found the measurements for moving the motor mounts. What about turning this into more of a project. How about doing the high line hood mod... here is the link www.higherground4x4.com/2/diy-high-line-hood-mod-for-cheapI like the way this looks plus it might be fun. If any of you guys have thought of doing this, might as well make the first attempt on a yj that will already be taken apart.

4.0 head is a good idea. You also need a GM 6 cyl and a ford motorcraft 2100 carb. both can be picked up @ junkyard.

Update: last night we yanked the motor, trany and transfer case. We started at about 8 and ended about 11:30. Thanks to everyone that helped get the crap out. The exhaust was crap to begin with so it has been yanked as well. Next week I plan on power washing the engine compartment and undercarriage. It would appear that it has been undercoated so I might not need to do as much work under but the engine compartment will a little wire wheel. Sport95 suggested "Rust Bullet" for the coat and rust prevention. I will give that product a shot since the prep work for it is minimal and he has given the finished product a good review.

www.rustbullet.com/Application.htmwear long sleeves and gloves when you put it on. You won't get it off your skin unless you immediatly wipe of off with solvent. You might want to roll it outside before you start painting. It is some noxious stuff. I still have some on my arm from last weekend. . . If you make it to 4wheelparts this weekend, I can bring a piece of patio furniture that I coated with rustbullet and their blackshell topcoat. Let me know.

Two jeep nights ago we took a closer look at the block Danno donated to the YJ. It didnt' take long for us to figure out it wouldn't turn. We first attributed the lack of turning to rusted rings since it had set for over two year. We also learned that vlad is stronger than hell when he broke the crank bolt off jumping on the the breaker bar with an extension like a monkey. We called it quits after that.
Last night I was delayed in getting to the garage but when I finally did make it, the guys let me know that the crank was binding. So, I now have to take the block and goodies to a shop and have it reworked. This was a little bit of a let down since I havn't been able to drive this damn thing since last September. Looking on the bright side, I do not have much money in this block or head. Once everything has been finished, the engine will be in great shape and should last.
Since the ranch is picking up due to warm weather, it will be several weeks before I can get the engine to a shop. While I am waiting, I will begin cleaning/painting (uh pork..powerwasher) the engine bay and accessories.

FYI,
I've now got an electric pressure washer. Goes about 1500 psi. it was good enough to clean the bottom of my jeep. Won't take paint off, and doesn't heat, but if you want I can bring it down.

If it's not raining out, I'm probably going to be working on the jeep at home. If it's crappy i'll be down. if one of the phone guys is up my way, they can bring it down for you . . .

Thanks to ed, I was able to power wash the engine bay last night. We later rolled it onto the trailer to be hauled down to the ranch. The plan has changed a little. I was looking at rust bullet to do the engine bay and the frame. The cost on the product is more than I would like since I am also going to have the engine block sent in to be worked. Casey and I had been discussing the options and he sent me this link www.instructables.com/id/Paint-Your-Car-With-RustoleumThat is the reason it is being brought to the ranch besides it was taking up room in the jeep garage. I wanted to be able to work on it on my spare time instead of once a week on jeep night. I have to clean the tool barn up in prep for it's arrival. Once it is here, the first order of business will be to repair the two rust spots on the tub and install new floor pans. I will post updates and pics as I go along.
